This was one of the last mixes I did for Jungletrain, and it is a good representation of where D&B was at towards the end of 2008. From the deep vibes of Commix – Bear Music to the rolling Hang With Me by Klute and through to the demolition that is Hive’s – Neo (2008 Mix) this mix has it all.

An old mate from Brighton, Stick, has asked for a re-up on Fup Duck.

I hadn’t even heard of half of these guys before I stumbled over them in digital land. Danny Byrd, Break and Bcee & Lomax being the BIG exceptions. Loads of weirdness in this mix which is why I love it. If you like your D&B a little left of centre then give this a try.

I did this mix about two years ago now for Jungletrain radio. It covers the full spectrum of D&B from the light to dark. There are some great tracks in here like Young Ax – In Too Deep, Logistics – Shanghai Skyline and Matrix & Futurebound – Womb.

I am lost as to what the Dan Marshal track is though, so if anyone knows it can they drop me a line and let me know so I can complete the tracklist.

This one is an oldy but a goody. Well, when I say old it is a bunch of tracks from 2008 which is ancient in D&B terms.

The vibe is strong in this one with a good up lifting feel but a firm dance floor bent. It’s got some of my favourites from last year including the touching (yes D&B can be touching) Bachelors of Science – Song for Lovers, the forgotten classic that is Shapeshifter’s – The Ride and the pure Amen devastation of Theory’s – Aurora Flash.

Prototypical – Jungletrain Session 191

Prototype recordings is one of those labels that chose quality over quantity. With artist like Photek, Dillinja, John B, Boymerang, Ed Rush & Optical and Bad Company on your books you are bound to making some pretty hot music. Add to this Grooverider selecting the tracks, running the label and producing under his Codename John alias and you’ve got one of the best D&B labels ever!

With derivative production becoming the norm, we need labels like Prototype. D&B needs labels who don’t imitate sounds or styles, but rather blaze their own trail of unique music. Prototype haven’t had a release for almost 5 years now, but I still hold out hope that one day Grooverider with blow the dust of his old label and start releasing some more groundbreaking tracks.

This mix covers from 1994 through to 2000, but they did release up to 2004 with smash after smash. Tunes like One Nation, Subway, Still and Locust set the standards when first released, and other labels scrambled to get ‘that sound’. Grooverider toured relentlessly to bring the Prototype sound to the four corners of the globe, and for me it was his golden era.

Someone asked me to rinse out an all Amen set for the Train Tracks show and this was the result. ASC’s Covert Operations label has to get a bashing as I am convinced these guys are doing the best Amen atmos tracks ATM, but on the harder tip we have Equinox, Breakage, Theory, Solar Empire & Goldie all laying down some killer Amen rinsers.

Obviously Amens aren’t everybodies cup of tea, but if you love THE beat and can’t get enough of it raining down on your from your speakers then you could do a lot worse than giving this a listen.

Going for the harder tinged liquid sounds in this mix with a jazz and bass rinse out. Aimed at the floor, these choons might be melodic, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t got enough oomph to move your body.

Utah Jazz’s new album – It’s a Jazz Thing gets a mighty big look in, and we got new tracks from GameOver, Dirrrty B and London Elektricty. I also throw in a few old favourites from D.Kay, D-BRidge and Calibre.

So if you like it jazzy and don’t mind brocking out in public places, I suggest you get on it.

This mix is as deep as they come with incredible tracks from D-Bridge’s – The Gemini Principle and Calibre’s – Overflow LPs. Plus new tracks from Decem, Breakage, DJ Clart and Thetaphi get a rinse.

I really go nuts on D-Bridge here though, so if you are a complete fanboy like myself you’ll love it to the bone.

This mix feels kindah like a movie based concept album thanks to many a track from Atlantic Connection’s awesome Tomorrows Not Enough LP. Helping with the weird ambience is Panda and I even play some D&B tracks by Sinistarr, Mutt, ATP and Sabaruko.

Flight 174: Perth to Amsterdam – Jungletrain Session 174

This one is going out to Steve who brought me back a copy of Reality Checkpoint from Japan way before it got released in Australia.

As you can see a lot of Logistic’s album ends up in this mix, and rightly so. Reality Checkpoint was for me on of the top 3 LPs of last year so if you haven’t checked it out go and get yourself a copy. Most the other artists in this mix are pretty low key and obtuse, so it is worth grabbing just to hear some tracks from guys I hadn’t heard of at the time, or since, for that matter.

The mix is awesome for traveling, so if you have a long trip coming up, load it up and float away with it.
