More liquid beats this time featuring a good slab of D&B’s friendliest MC Inja’s new LP ‘Smile & Wave’. This album came out of the blue for me, and had so many great tracks on it I’m still rinsing them months after release.
Another big surprise was Metalheadz alumni Scar coming out with some beautifully melodic pieces on his Why EP. Known far more for tough futuristic beats and cavernous b-lines, Scar’s Falling Down and All I See are liquid, but with a rawness that is impossible not to like.
Much love to Seba too for his outstanding Fokuz All Stars Pt.3 release featuring Second Path and the divine Mystic Magnolia, Pola & Bryson for their killer tracks Neverend and Under and Disrupta for his tasty new Changes EP.

Atmospheric D&B continues to go from strength to strength this year with artists like Acid_Lab, Seba, FX909 and Cryogenics & Eschaton knocking it out of the park. The fact PFM is re-releasing a bunch of classics doesn’t hurt either which is why this mix reflects the best of old and new Atmos tunes.

Atmospheric D&B has come roaring back with some of the scenes finest going back to their roots and producing some absolutely beautiful Intelligent style D&B. ASC, Equinox, Voyager, Seba and even PFM have been elevating the sound to new levels.
Not to be left out, newer heads such as Jrumhand, Earl Grey and even Metalheadz wunderkind Kid Drama are keeping up, bringing their own take to the classic Amen driven sound.
Another liquid mix in a rolling style with some absolute belters thrown in. Starting off with Need for Mirrors – Without U, others such as Terror & Espa – Loaded Gun (BCee Remix) and Severity & Whiney – Broken Hearted (Whiney Remix) will have you singing along.
Also keep and ear out for new tracks from Marky, Alix Perez & Workforce, Need for Mirrors and the killer Zero T re-rub of Goldie and José James’ – Truth.

It’s been a while since I’ve dropped a Down Low and this one is an eclectic mix of house, techno, breaks and even a trance classic in the form of Vapour Space’s – Gravitational Arch of 10. A tune which used to absolutely melt my mind on the dance floor back in the early 90s. Laurent Garnier has described it as the perfect Trance track and who am I to argue.
As with most Down Low Sessions, I’ve slotted in a few D&B artists takes on the lower BPMs and this one sees Sub Focus, Goldie, Photek and Joy Orbison all contribute 130bpm masterpieces to the vibe.
If you like pure electronic music I’m pretty confident you’ll love this, so enjoy.

Been an absolute age since I’ve dropped a Down Low Session and I am super excited about this one. A collaboration between William C. and myself, the selection duties fell to William. I then programmed the tunes into a workable order and let the music mix itself.
Flying by the seat of my pants, I didn’t want to listen to any of these tracks in their entirety. Instead, I just did some simple track marking and then dealt with any surprises as they came along. The result is a Deep House / Techno set William described as ‘Funny, witty, funkily playful – just full of emotion and brimming with happiness.’
First Born – Hey Mr (Tambourine Man) Paco Osuna – Let’s Dream Soul Boy – Harmonica Metro Area – Parton Candy Black Strobe – Nazi Trance Fuck Off (James Holden Remix) ILS – No Soul Marcella – Stabbing Sally Goldfrap – Train Superstars of Rock – Up All Night [Won’t Make the Gym] (Salt City Vocal Remix) Winx – You Are the One Piemont – Carbonat Greed feat. I have always been a huge fan of Teebee’s early works on Certificate 18 and later on his own Subtitles imprint. Teebee recently went on a remastering rampage on his entire back catalogue of early LPs, EPs and 12″s all of which can be found on his Subtitle’s Bandcamp – https://subtitlesmusic.bandcamp.com/
To say I was pleased is an understatement. I pretty much own most of these tracks on vinyl already, but was more than happy to pony up again for the digital remasters because there is just so much great music in this man’s back catalogue. From singalong R&B bootlegs to dark, brooding techstep monsters one thing Teebee’s early work has is serious funk.
If you are feeling any of the tunes you hear in this mix please do the right thing and purchase them for yourself. They are cheaper than ever and have never sounded so good.
Another tasty liquid roller featuring some artists I’ve been meaning to call out for awhile now.
First up Workforce AKA Jack Stevens is one half of Spectrasoul and has been absolutely killing it lately. His track ‘Your Moves’ of the EP of the same name is in my top 5 tracks of last year. Secondly, FX909 who has been making quality liquid D&B for almost 20 years has also been on fire of late. And last but least, Monrroe the Cheltenham based producer who’s track ‘You Got Me’ has been stuck in my head ever since it came out.
And an extra shout out to Calibre for finally releasing his remix of London Grammar’s – If You Wait. And wait we did, for two bloody years and it was still totally worth it.
Workforce – Your Moves
Monrroe – Everywhere I Go
Dawn Wall – Take Control
Koherent & Charli Brix – Voices
Monrroe & Alexa Harvey – You Got Me
Enei – Get Closer (feat. Charlie Brix)
Dawn Wall – I Should Have Been There
FX909 – Undefined
FX909 – Ultra Thin
Peshay & VSY – Infinity
Etherwood – See The Sky (feat. Thomas Oliver)
London Grammar – If You Wait (Long Enough You’ll Get The Calibre Remix)
Natural Forces – Alone
Dawn Wall – Legends
T:Base – Is It True
Document One & Cimone – Newborn
Workforce – Fragments
Henry Fonda – Musical Soldiers
Dawn Wall – Birdmask
Workforce – Your Moves (Tease)
Sending this one out to the roasters, this is a deep, atmospheric and ballsy mix of beats sitting around the 130bpm mark. Even though it has some growl to it, it is still all chill.
In typical Down Low style the genres are eclectic with dubstep, trip-hop, bass, house and electronica all thrown in. Even the eras are mixed up with a lot of contemporary tunes and a few from as far back as 1996.
I got a chance to listen back on this during a recent flight and it is perfect traveling music. So if you have a journey coming up over the holidays you could do worse than loading this one up and letting it take you there.
Dave DK – We Mix at Six Clap! Clap! – Ode to the Pleiades (Photay Remix) Brian Cid – Dissolved In You Nuage – Electricity Roy Davis Jr. – Chicago Heights D’Cruise – Sega Rally (Trip Hop Mix) Aved & Artemenko Valentyn – Natail Synkro – Images Goldie, James Davidson & Subjective – Re-Entry Goldie, James Davidson & Subjective – Inkolelo Terranova – Tell Me Why (feat. Stereo MCs) Deadmau5 & Scene of Action – Hurricane (Offaaiah Remix) Distorted Beauty – Pearls of the Night Subandrio – Mein Sohn EANP – Stamp Booka Shade – Understanding Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile – Wind Down (Outro Mix)
Inspired by the tougher sounds of Blue Note era Metalheadz, this mix proves that not all hard D&B needs to be mid-range bass lines, high pitched snares and screeching synths to make an impact.
The classic heavy sound seems to be making a serious comeback lately and is moving forward by looking back to the golden era of the sound. Fixate’s – Ripgroove remix being a perfect example of a classic reworked for modern day sound systems and listening. Other’s such as Brazilian producer Bungle, D&B super group Kings of the Rollers and new kid on the block Pasha Solecci are following suit bringing a new production techniques to the OG sound with devastating effect.
