Been sleeping on uploading my Down Low Sessions side project for Phuture Frequency Radio, so this is a catch up for May, June and July. If you’re a Bass Music lover this lot will keep you rolling strong. Number 008 it is up on the PF Radio site right now. Sessions 005 has a good selection of deep Bass tracks going on and, while it is laid back, it packs enough punch to keep you nodding. Sessions 006 and 007 are more floor orientated with a good dose of Trap and Techno going on. Definitely good drive by themes if your planning on working the bass cones while creeping the streets in your jeep.

Another Bass Music mix from the pfradio archives. Once again a lot of D&B artists flexing their slower BPM muscle such as Synkro, Actraiser, Unquote, Eveson and Rockwell. This one has a UK Garage and Dub flavour to it, so if you like hitting the dance floor with a blunt in your mouth you’ll love this one.

Third in the Down Low series and this time we hit the dance floor whilst still keeping things on the deeper tip. Kicking things off with Photek’s massive remix of Birdy’s ‘Shelter’ we go into a selection made for moving. Interesting to note there is a stack of D&B producers in here like Lemon D, Netsky, Sunchase & Nickbee, Logistics, Tali and Atlantic Connection all flexing their Bass Music muscles. This wasn’t done on purpose, but it seems these guys have a knack for producing exactly the sort of Bass Music that moves me.

Been absolutely ages since I’ve put up any news on here, let alone some free tracks, and I promise in the future I’ll try harder to seek out some good stuff for you guys. Like this compilation from The Melt! So basically I know nothing about this label or the artists other than it is wicked music well worth downloading, especially considering the asking price. I’ll leave it to the labels PR to do the talking…

“Since our beginning, we’ve been consistently crossing paths with talented artists one way or another. Whether it was from them playing one of our shows, or us finding them on the web, we’ve found something we love about everyone on here. As some of you may know I’ve recently moved from Perth to Hobart and had to drop my long running radio show on RTRfm. Having done the show for over 15 years I yearned for something to fill the gap in my life giving up radio in Perth had left me with. So, thanks to the wonderful and talented Guy Andrews at Phuture Frequency Radio I have started up a new monthly radio show/podcast.

It’s a bass music session devoted to the deeper and dubbier side of all things bass, and will feature a lot of different genres including techno, dubstep, house, UK garage to name just a few. As the name suggests this is a bass stomping, heart thumping beast of a mix with some heavey hitters across the breaks, house and dubstep genres. A lot of these are oldies but very goodies with a few new tunes like Killawatt’s – Sidewinder (Ipman Remix), Shu & Edna’s – Fattle Bield (Driftkong & Zmokingz Remix) and Dreams’s mighty – This Isn’t House (Topher Jones Remix) thrown in for good measure. I’m not normally one for hammering out the heaviness like this, but the quality of these tunes speaks for themselves and they just had to be thrown down.

This mix is also the first mix on my new set up since I’ve moved to Tasmania so hopefully the sound quality is still up there with my previous mixes. I’ve changed the recording set up around a fair bit, so comments on quality are welcome and appreciated.

Hitting up the funkier side of the Bass phenomenon this time around, there are some great tunes in this mix. Spectrasoul’s – Away With Me is killer no matter who is remixing it, The Nextmen’s – The Lion’s Den brings a pure party vibe to proceedings and of coarse Photek gets heavy rotation with M25fm, Levitation, Totem, 101 and the massive Fountainhead. Some of this is Dubstep, some is House and other bits are more Breaks or Garage. But no matter what it is called it is quality.

Bass Fishing – Ear & Drum Session 76

Session number 76 sees something new in the repetiore with my first attempt at a Bass Music mix. WTF is Bass Music I hear you ask yourself, and what happened to the Drums? Bass Music is a mixture of (mainly UK) House, Techno, Dubstep and Garage. I say mainly UK because it seems to be the UKs reaction to Dubstep being stolen by Skrillex in the US and turned into some screachy festival music for bros & hoes. This sound is much deeper, and groovier and has a good smattering of the real Dub and Reggae roots dubstep originally had when it first came out.

For me this stuff is super fun to mix, and the chance to blend all sorts of styles, beats and tempos together reminds me of the good old days when there weren’t really any defined genres. It was all just dance music. I think the other thing that is great about this stuff is that it can be as deep you like whilst still feeling fun and making you move. Something D&B seems to have forgotten with it’s super slick production and super sped up beats. Although if you check the set list carefully you’ll notice that a good chunk of the producers in this mix do have their roots in D&B production.

Oh and the other reason it’s called Bass Music because it really is heavy on the bass. So turn it up and tear it up.
